Kentucky Beats Hofstra 96-73

By Tony Acree    With only a few minutes to go in the first half, the Hofstra Pride trailed the Kentucky Wildcats by only 3 points at 36-33 at the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival. A few minutes later, they trailed by 15 as Kentucky ended the half on a 12 point run. Kentucky was led by their trio of guards, with Malik Monk pouring in 20, Isaiah Briscoe 19 and De’Aaron Fox tallied 15. They were joined in double-digit scoring by freshman big man Bam Adebayo with 14. Derek Willis, the other starter for the Cats, dropped in 8 points and pulled down a team high 8 rebounds.

Deron Powers topped Hofstra in scoring with 18 points. The Pride showed theirs by keeping the larger Wildcats within striking distance for most of the first half. Powers continually drove to the basket drawing fouls and getting to the charity stripe, but in the end, the more athletic Kentucky team cranked up their defensive effort and were never threatened with a loss.

Next up for Kentucky will be a throw down with North Carolina in Las Vegas on Saturday.

I agree, Mike. This Saturday could have a huge impact on Kentucky’s seeding come tournament time.
