Florida decided to not reschedule their game with LSU Saturday in Gainesville due to Hurricane Matthew. LSU stomped Missouri last week and was looking for their second straight under interim coach Ed Orgeron. Florida lost to Tennessee two weeks ago and struggled on offense in a win over Vanderbilt in Nashville last week.
Orgeron took over LSU two weeks ago when Les Miles was fired after losing to Auburn on the road. Had Orgeron been able to beat Florida in the Swamp it would’ve been a big feather in his cap for keeping the job and removing the interim tag.
“Coach O” addressed the media earlier today to talk about the canceled game.
Florida is the real winner in all of this. They get to avoid playing a tough SEC foe who could possibly beat them. With Missouri, Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas left on the schedule the Gators could make a run at the SEC East Championship Game as long as Tennessee loses to Alabama and Texas A&M the next two weeks. The University of Florida has come under fire since deciding to cancel the game as many have accused the school of ducking a tough LSU team just to get out of playing a team that could beat them.
LSU will now set their sites on Southern Miss who will play the Tigers next weekend in the Bayou.
